what kind of fish is it?
me and my dad were out fishing once, on opening day in S.E. Pennsylvania, not too far outside of philly, under a bridge, and we saw this large white fish with a block dot on the back of it’s head, that looked something like an enormous goldfish, my rough guess would be that it was about 20-25 inches long, it maybe a little more or less, i suck with estimating sizes of things it was next a similar looking fish that was entirely dark colored (it was under a bridge, it was hard to tell exactly it was dark). it mostly just sat there and didn’t move much, and ignored any bait we tried (worms, powerbait, corn, assorted lures) until we hit it over the head. the water was about waist
deep, and not really flowing much. this has been driving us crazy for a while, so can anyone tell us what kind of fish this might have been?
Most likely it was a carp hanging with another carp. I grew up in Camden along the river and have seen many odd colored carp (with spots) in the river and creeks feeding into the river.
The carp range up to 6 feet long in the river and its tributaries. They do not eat much when they are in the spawning mode which would be May & June around here.
But the 20-25 inch estimate sounds like an average size fish for these waters. Hope this helps.
