Things to do in the beautiful Indian Ocean of Zanzibar

Zanzibar is simply a paradise island with a nice relaxed vibe and plenty of fun things to do whilst you are not chilling out. Many activities people take part in whilst on vacation in Zanzibar make use of the beautiful Indian Ocean that surrounds the island. This article will give you some ideas to help you decide on how to spend your days whilst on holiday.

Swimming, Snorkelling and Diving

When you arrive in Zanzibar, you will be bursting to jump into the lovely, warm Indian Ocean to cool off, but as well as swimming you can take a closer look into what the sea has to offer with a diving or snorkelling trip. The coral reefs in many areas of Zanzibar make a beautiful sight alone, not to mention the bright, colourful tropical reef fish that can be seen swimming in between them. Depending on the diving or snorkelling trip you decide to take, you can spot all kinds of wildlife, from clown fish (finding nemo), rays, small sharks, unicorn fish, seahorses and even sea turtles.

Fishing

Fishing trips in Zanzibar can bring back some big catches. Lots of local fishermen go out on traditional wooden dhow boats and come home with fresh catches of king fish, swordfish and tuna. If you go out on a game fishing trip in Zanzibar, you have a good chance to catch some nice weighing varieties of marlin, tuna, barracuda, broad bill and sailfish.

Water Sports

Zanzibar is a great place to get involved in water sports. There are many places to try out adrenaline clinching activities such as kayaking, windsurfing and water skiing. As with any kind of extreme sport, it is good to do some training and practising before going out in to the ocean, so ensure you are confident in your ability before jumping in feet first.
